After graduating in 2012, he moved back to Abilene to be with his soon to be wife as she finished her degree at HSU. In May of 2013 Mike and his wife Maggie celebrated the birth of their daughter, Addison Grace. Mike continued to work in Abilene at various jobs, searching for his passion. He soon found it in working for a small insurance office. After there a few months he realized he wanted to have his own agency with a large company. He decided to work go to work for a local agency that was already growing rapidly and he spent two and a half years working for and learning from the owner of that agency. In December of 2018 he signed a contract with Farmers Insurance to become the owner of two agencies in Durango, Colorado, and in March of 2019 he officially took over his new businesses. Mike's passion for insurance enabled him to pursue his real dream which was to own a youth sports development organization. His favorite sport for most of his life was basketball. Before moving to Durango, he had coached various youth leagues in Abilene. While in Durango Mike founded a select basketball program titled SouthWest Select. This program specialized in developing youth basketball for local youth. Soon after Mike founded SouthWest Select, he and his wife made a decision to move back to Abilene to be closer to family. Mike decided to continue to oversee operations at SouthWest Select from Texas while the co-founders took over the main responsibilities. Mike was ready to fulfill his dream of providing a youth sports organization to cities and communities all across the state of Texas. When he decided to move back to Abilene, he started looking for like-minded individuals to partner with. It wasn't long before he spoke with co-founder Kyle Roberts out of Abilene about working together to make his dream a reality. That is when they founded the new nonprofit youth sports organization "Evolve 14:23." Now Mike and Kyle, along with the help of the chapter presidents, have not only established an Evolve 14:23 chapter in Abilene, but also in Lubbock, Amarillo, Round Rock, Houston and San Antonio, with plans to add even more chapters in 2021!
